ATMs are widespread throughout the country, even in smaller towns and cities. Visa and Mastercard are the most common forms of payment, and foreign currencies are unlikely to be accepted directly. Tipping is accepted, and highly encouraged!
Oman is ranked one of the safest countries in the world, crime rates are relatively low, and the majority of tourists and locals feel safe exploring. Omanis are known for being super friendly and welcoming, it’s not uncommon for them to invite you into their home to enjoy some dates and Arabic coffee. As with any country, the odd instance of petty theft is reported and as such we would advise you to take the necessary safety precautions and to store passports, money and valuables in a closed bag or hotel safe.
VISAS
Visas, documentation and entry conditions differ between countries. In most cases, a Tourist Visa can be obtained on arrival, but we highly recommend obtaining the appropriate visa prior to arrival. Visas cost between 5 to 20 OMR for 10-30 days and are mandatory for most nationalities. To apply for an e-visa and for more information on the different types of visas available and countries permitted to purchase a visa on arrival, please visit the Royal Oman Police website https://evisa.rop.gov.om/. Some passport holders with an existing Qatar or Dubai tourist visa can visit Oman without additional visas if arriving directly from either of those areas.
Further information on this can be found here: (http://www.rop.gov.om/old/english/dg_pr_visas_dubai.asp). GCC passport holders are visa exempt. Please be aware that admission may be refused if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport.
